CPB Band Trip Annual Awards 2004

An initial vote of thanks was made to the groupies who supported us so well throughout the trip, namely George Burton, Anne Burton, Jean Morton, Joe and Margaret, Annette, Ron, Lyndsey, Anne-Marie, Glenda and Sue Durston.

Practical Joker Award: David Maher for setting the hotel video timer for 5.30am!

Beer Tourism Award: Joint Winners – Richard and Guy for trying endless different ‘real beers’ with special mention to Richard for his persistence with the beer on the last night … how much did he actually drink?!

Thanks to Guy, Paul Terra and Mike and Catherine Stallybrass for their help, especially Paul for his sterling work on the front row.

Beautician of the Trip: Veronica … [Maggie – thanks for the pedicure!!]

Honesty Award: Chris and Glenda for not cheating during the quiz – honestly!

Paula Radcliffe Award: Rachel, for not giving up, and playing the solo with a very bad back!

Magic Roundabout Award: … can only go to Ray ‘The Gardener’, Pappy ‘Dylan’, and of course their very own Florence, Sue!

Oxford English Award: Anne Taylor and Mike Stallybrass for indicating the alternative lyrics to a particular ditty!

The Woman from Del Monte: Catherine Lord – due to the endless satsumas in her bag!

Sherlock Holmes Award: Roger Morton – congratulations for finding your pipe!

Mr Muscles Award: Jointly awarded to Steve Cowlin and Adam Payn for carting the timps across town!

Van Gogh Award: Nicky Maher for her fantastic decorations on her quiz sheets

Adrienne Edmonds Award: For bringing a feminine side to the bass section, this award was presented to Catherine S.

Ken Baker Award: [We had hoped that as Ken actually turned up on time for the coach we would be able to present this award to someone else as the last person to turn up to everything …] presented to … Ken Baker. However there have been significant improvements Ken, so well done!

Best/Worse Hangover: Lucy Rice … it looked painful!

Parlez-vous Franglais Award: Présenté à Mike Gray pour son français très superbe!

Top Gear Award: Presented to Michelle Schumacher (aka Sue Durston!) for her skill and determination with the remote control car!

Good Parenting Award: Chris and Carol Maher – even though their kids are fantastic practical jokers!

Child of Courage Award: For inviting her parents on a trip where they could see her behaviour this was presented to Maggie!

Davina McCall Award: Clare Lipscombe for her gradual morphing into various TV quiz show hosts!

Special Award: Roger Clements was presented with a shell ashtray for organising an ‘Ashtray-nomically’ good trip [groan!].

Gift: As he has been friends with James for so long, Mike Burton was presented with some ear-plugs to protect him while he sits in the line of fire!

Lightweight Award: James Gordon was presented with a can of London Pride to help him practice and build up his stamina for next year.

And finally, the most important award …

The Drinker of the Trip: Though there was no doubt surrounding who should win this prize, the award was amended to Man of the Trip and was presented to Ken Baker for various achievements: beating Adam in the quiz, winning the jackpot on the ferry, arranging the Grand Prix, and even spending 19 euros on one single cognac – Ken, we salute you!
