ADJUDICATOR's Remarks on the performance of the Test Piece "DINORAH " at the
National Band Festival September 24th, 1921.


MR. CHARLES WARD'S COMMENTS.
Allo. mod. : A good opening; expression marks are well observed, and the whole is given with refreshing smartness. Allegro 3-4 : Neat entry by accompts.; cornet does very well and band play up to him finely ; all contrasts are well brought out ; cad., excellent. Andante allto. : Good toned euplh. ; basses and troms. most effective; at (5) very well done. Andante 6-8 : Euph. gives true expression to his solo, and sop. colours well ; the whole is well in tune, and well balanced ; very good. Allo. con spir. : Given with right conception of movement.; all inner parts are clear and true proportion ; cad., an excellent trom. Andante : Beautiful entry ; a splendid soloist, and band appreciate his effort ; a carefully trained band ; splendid close. Andanto. Accompts. excellent ; horn imparts fervour to his work and sonority of bass is most marked ; a beautiful movement. Allegro : Again clean playing with right inflexion and tonal variation; climaxes arc most effeetivcly managcd. Allegro 12-8: Very smart, given with dignity and majesty. A very superior performance. (First prized)

MR. HAROLD KEMP'S COMMENTS. :
Very precise to open, good tone and well balanced ; a good movement. Allegro moderate : Accompts. very neat and good soloist ; well played throughout; cadenza very good, nice tone and style. Andante allegretto : Basses and barits. very nice indeed in triplets ; euph. good. Andante allegretto (6-8): Nice horns in accompts., and euph. plays splendidly, very tasty; cornet and sop. assist in a very able ' manner ; close of movement beautiful; a very fine movement. Allegro con spirito : A splendid number well played throughout ; cadenza splendidly played, .best yet. Andante cantabile : Dim. nicely given, and trom. is very artistic, and accompts judicious. Bravo! trom. I have greatly enjoyed your rendering of this beautiful solo ; close of movement delightful; tuning of band a feature. " Andantino : A very fine number ; horn splendid, also sop., and excellent basses. Allegro : Well played; fine cornet, ably assisted by band. Allegro (6-8) : Nothing but praise for you. A splendid toned band, well balanced. A very fine performance. (First prize.)
