Cornwall Awards:

 

(Unless otherwise indicated all winners were presented with their choice of sweet)

 

The Les Dawson Award for general entertainment was presented to the clear winner – Basil Prueveneers

 

The Caring and Sharing Award, for the person who looked after many members of the party, including her own brother when his music and stand were about to fly away – Nicky Maher

 

The Michael J. Fox Award for impressive vibrato (presented by Clare who is allowed to say this!) – Ian Walsh

 

The Best Supporting Artistes – recognition of the sterling work of support from Ron, Annette, Penny and Dave

 

The Ellen McArthur Award for quick re-navigation skills when faced with bank holiday traffic  - Ray

 

And less of an award, more of a certification – for the execution of a perfect three point turn and reverse around a corner – Pappy passes his driving test!

 

The Anne Robinson Strongest Link Award for quiz supremacy – Adam Payn

 

The Cilla Black Award could only be presented to the person who took not one but two lovely ladies out to dinner on the first night – for a reminder, it’s Oor Graeme (Cornish)

 

The Keeping Up Appearances Award for continuous mention of Buckets/Bouquets at the front of the band ready for donations – Roger Morton

 

The Mine’s A Pint Award for rapid disappearance to the bar when a Euphonium player was needed by St. Keverne, leaving Clare to fill the gap – Chris Maher

 

The ASBO Award for dropping a glass in Newquay and getting chants of “Asbo, Asbo” from surfers stag nights in reply – Annette

 

The Des O’Connor Award for general chit-chat and japery – Mike Gray

 

The Handy Andy Award for rapid fixing of timps and drum kits, whether they were collapsing in the middle of the street or the middle of a concert – Mike Stallybrass

 

The Beer Preservation Award for swift action in noticing a pint about to be spilt and preventing tragedy (wonderful to see such sense in one so young) – Isabel Bleach

 

The Challenge Anneka Award for gamely taking on the challenge of getting her parents onto a dance mat (sadly no further dance mats were found but we know she would have done it) – Zoë Bleach

 

(Zoë and Isabel were presented with a pinball game to keep them entertained while away from the arcades of Newquay)

 

The Parents of Bravery Award – similar to last years child of bravery award whose winner had brought her parents, this years award goes to the parents who brought their children on their first band trip – Rachel and Roger Bleach

 

The Lord Snowdon Award for photography at all times – Glenda Atkins

 

The I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue Award for very impressive communication with her husband through the medium of mime while he was playing a concert – Jean Morton

 

The St. Tropez Award for not minding being left all alone on a Falmouth Beach to top up her tan while her husband decided to go and play in a concert without telling her – Lisa Prueveneers

 

The Patience Award for waiting patiently for her dinner while others were stuffing their face with tapas – Anne Burton

 

The Miss Congeniality Award for not scaring anyone  at any point during the whole course of the trip (up to this point!) – Paul Smith

 

The David Walliams Award for swimming in the channel (though not as far as he did) – Maggie Stallybrass

 

The Rudyard Kipling Award for someone who could keep her head, while all around others were losing theirs – Clare Lipscombe

 

The Vivienne Westwood Award for non-conformist fashion on the bandstand, wearing her own band jacket rather than a borrowed CPB one – Marge Walsh

 

The Pearly Queen Award for bringing an East End Boozer atmosphere to deepest darkest Cornwall – Anne Taylor (Anne was presented with a pearl button in absentia)

 

The Perfect Last Stand Award went to the only person whose stand didn’t collapse or blow away during their solo – Carol Maher

 

The Ralph Fiennes Award for solo exploration – Jenny (Jenny was presented with a local tourist information leaflet to help her on further expeditions)

 

The Jamie Oliver Award for ensuring that her charge had a healthy and balanced lunch to eat on the coach on the way down to Cornwall – Janet Clements

 

The Lastminute.com Award to someone who manfully took up the challenge of playing both 1^st and 2^nd Baritone at the same time – Lucy Rice

 

The Tom-Tom Award for always knowing where he was going down the little country Cornish lanes – Richard Lovett

 

The Rose Between Two Thorns Award (formally known as the Adrienne Edmondson Award, formally known as the Rose Between Two Thorns Award) for continuing to bring a bit of femininity to the bass section – Catherine Stallybrass

 

The Siamese Twins Award for wearing exactly the same top with pride – Sue and Anne Taylor

 

The Jake the Peg Award for trying to keep far too many sheets of music on one stand – David Maher

 

The RSPCA Award for drawing our attention to the Beast of Bodmin’s efforts to catch a poor little mouse – Margaret Larkin

 

The BAA Award for managing to fly down for a band trip during the current security regulations still with only one piece of hand luggage and no hold luggage – Katy Gordon

 

The Busman’s Holiday Award for manfully putting up with learning less during the trip to Goonhilly than he would have done on a normal day at work – Andrew Lipscombe

 

The Fisherman’s Friend Award … (Author’s Note: We have to admit to being completely stumped as to what this award was presented in recognition of! Any clues gratefully received please!!) – Joe Larkin was presented with a polo as we didn’t have any fisherman’s friends!

 

The Hurricane Katrina Award for successfully fending off wind and saving the soloists stand – Mike Burton was presented with some Rennie!

 

The Lonely Planet Intrepid Explorer Award for fearless overnight travel on the sleeper train – Ken Barker was presented with a travel game to keep him entertained next time!

 

The Cream of the Crop Award for organising a fantastic trip and generally being an all round star – Chris Atkins was presented with a jar of clotted cream!

 

The CPB Band Trip Hangover Award was presented to someone who clearly had a stinker of a hangover, but managed to drag themselves over to Asda for survival – Andrew Lipscombe was presented with some resolve

 

And finally …

 

The CPB Band Trip Drinker of the Trip Award was wide open this year with the two expected front runners both absent (James Gordon and Steve Cowlin). But the winner started at Jamaica Inn and did not stop (apart from when he passed out on the coach!) until the hangover kicked in on Monday morning (and it looked like a bad one!) – the clear winner this year was our very own Paul Smith.
