Tony Priday
Sadly Tony Priday died in 2014, aged 92. His bridge record speaks for itself, and he has always supported the county, of which he was an honorary member. In recent years he had been an abiding presence at the Lederer Memorial Trophy, and his absence from the 2013 event was keenly felt. Tony Priday was one of the most illustrious  of British bridge players. He was educated at Winchester  and reached the rank of major in the army before joining the family wood-importing business. He won numerous National events, including no fewer than seven Gold Cups. He played in his first Camrose in 1956 and represented Britain almost continuously from 1960 to 1986, winning gold at the European Championships in 1961 andBronze in the Bermuda Bowl in 1962. He came outof retirement to play with Nick Sandqvist forEngland in the 2001 Camrose. Tony was a Vice-President of the EBU and for 36 years was the bridge correspondent of the Sunday Telegraph.
