TONY PRIDAY (PRESIDENT'S TEAM)

Tony, thank you for taking the time to talk to us.
A pleasure.
I notice that you and Bernard have been 'limbering up'.
Yes, we had a little practice game last Wednesday and managed to win.
Do you still get as much enjoyment from bridge as you did in your salad
days?
Oh, indeed. Take Wednesday for instance. We played against some terribly
good players and some who, frankly, weren't quite so good, but the
atmosphere was pleasant and most hands have some point of interest to them,
whether one manages to spot it at the time or not!

You seem to partner your wife a lot.
Yes, she has been playing for a while herself, but we both approach each
game with a frisson of excitement.

Are there some new opponents for you this year?
Yes, some fresh faces. I'm looking forward to playing against the
Australian team, and finding out what young players get up to in that neck
of the woods, and the Welsh are, to me at least, mostly unknown quantities.
After their excellent performance in Manchester they may well be one of the
teams to watch.

What about The President's Team. Are they the ones who are going to topple
the seemingly unconquerable All-Stars?
One hopes so. But the London Team may well put on a good show: Burn and
Callaghan are solid performers and Gold and Townsend seem to have matured
into a useful partnership.

It sounds as though you're making a case for this year's field being
particularly strong.
They're all strong when you're about to go and play against them!
Tony, thank you very much, and good luck.
