Declarer won East's spade honour with the King and played a diamond to the Ace. West showed out! Now declarer ruffed out the hearts finding them 3/3 and took the spade finesse. Unfortunately East had QJx and could punch the table to establish a trump trick. One off.

In the other room on a heart lead, there was no losing option in the spade suit. Declarer went for the hearts straight away and then ruffed ot the spades. There were still enouigh trump entries on the table to play winning cards through East's trumps. Contract made.

The first trump was fatal.
