Not long before the tragic fire on 30th November1936, Crystal Palace Band played a major part in the 1935 Easter Bank Holiday Entertainmnents programme on 22nd April. The music also featured the Welsh Guards and the distinguished organists L H Thomas and F W Holloway.

The programme of the day may be read (2 megs) in PDF file format by clicking here.,

We worked hard. The first session was from 11.30 - 2.00, and then we were on again from 6.30 to 8.45.

Our Conductor for the day was Mr W Mann.

Our programme of music makes for interesting reading. Not much remains in the current repetoire!

The document was kindly donated by Peter G Harris, currently of Chippenham, Wilts. Peter's parents did much of their courting on outings to Crystal Palace during the early thirties and they saw the red glow in the sky from Coulsdon when it sadly burnt down.

Sid Browne played for CP Band at the concerts described in the programme, and Peter met Sid when he started playing with Whitstable Brass. Sadly, Sid died some years ago, having played Eb Bass for Whitstable.
