Liturgy:
Sunday Mass is at the very heart of the life of a parish. While the priest presides at the celebration there is also – as was encouraged by the Second Vatican Council – the full, conscious and active participation of all the congregation. Many parishioners help out in special ways – special ministers of Holy Communion, Scripture readers and altar servers in particular. The choir leads the singing at the 10.30am Mass and are heavily involved during the Holy Week ceremonies. Parents of young children together with teenage parishioners help with the Children’s Liturgy at the 10.30am Mass. Other parishioners arrange the flowers, clean the church, wash the altar linen, clean the sacred vessels and help with the collections, the votive lights and in the repository. Mass is celebrated every day, the rosary is recited after weekday Masses and Confessions are heard on Saturdays. The special ministers of Holy Communion bring Holy Communion to parishioners who are housebound or in nursing homes. In addition there is an annual Service for the Sick in late September. There are parish-based programmes to prepare children for First Holy Communion, for Confirmation, and to prepare adults to receive the sacraments at Easter (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults).
