Centenary Concert - Rudesheim - Centenary Photoshoot
Centenary year 2001
2001 was the year of the Band's centenary.
To mark the start of a year full
of activities,
the band held two Centenary Celebration
Concerts
at St John the Evangelist Parish
Church,
Penge, one on 27th January and
one on 5th
May.
The band visited Rudesheim in Germany for the August bank holiday weekend
at wine festival time performing two successful concerts. The first was
in Koblenz at the junction of the Rhine and Moselle. The second was at
Berne-Kastel on the Moselle .
The highlight of the year was undoubtedly, the
Grand Centenary Concert held on Saturday 27th October at Ravensbourne
School, Bromley. The program included an arrangement by the Band's
Musical Director, Michael Gray, of George Gershwin's Rhapsody in
Blue, for Piano and Brass Band with guest soloist Karl Lutchmayer
on Piano and two Solo Trombone items played by Duncan Wilson. As
well as celebrating the Band's Centenary, the magnificent sum of
£1,800.00 was raised throughout the year and that evening for St
Christopher's Hospice.
